Easy French Dip Sandwiches are a simple yet delicious meal, perfect for a quick lunch or a casual dinner. These sandwiches feature tender slices of roast beef, melted cheese, and a savory au jus for dipping, offering a delightful combination of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls or French baguettes
  • 1 pound thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • 8 slices of provolone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: horseradish or mustard for spreading

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the thinly sliced onion and cook until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Split the hoagie rolls or baguettes and place them on a baking sheet. If desired, spread a thin layer of horseradish or mustard on the rolls.
  5. Layer the roast beef and cheese slices on each roll. Place in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is slightly toasted.
  6. Meanwhile, strain the onions from the broth and set them aside. Keep the broth warm to use as au jus for dipping.
  7. Assemble the sandwiches with the caramelized onions and close them.
  8. Serve the sandwiches with a small bowl of au jus for dipping.
