Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup raisins

For the Cinnamon Filling:

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
  2. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  3. Stir in the raisins, then gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 6-8 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (approximately 20×10 inches).
  7. For the filling, mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Spread the softened butter over the rolled-out dough, then sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly from the long end, pinch the seams to seal, and tuck the ends under.
  9. Place the roll, seam side down, into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  12. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
