Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup raisins
For the Cinnamon Filling:
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
- Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in the raisins, then gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 6-8 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (approximately 20×10 inches).
- For the filling, mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Spread the softened butter over the rolled-out dough, then sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Roll up the dough tightly from the long end, pinch the seams to seal, and tuck the ends under.
- Place the roll, seam side down, into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
