Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry is a classic Chinese-American dish known for its savory and slightly sweet sauce coating tender strips of beef and fresh broccoli. It’s a quick and easy meal, perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

For the Beef Marinade:

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

For the Stir-Fry:

  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil for the marinade. Mix well and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the ingredients for the sauce – soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, broth, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  3. Blanch the broccoli florets in boiling water for about 2 minutes, then plunge them into ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until it’s browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  5. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the wok. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds.
  6. Add the broccoli to the wok and stir-fry for a couple of minutes.
  7. Return the beef to the wok and pour in the sauce. Stir-fry everything together until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
  8. Serve the Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry hot with steamed rice.
